Martin Jensen Exclusive interview | Lifestyle Pocket Guide

Hey Martin, thanks for chatting with us! Where in the world are you right now, and what’s your view like?

Thank you for having me! I am at home in Copenhagen and it finally feels like Spring is here, although I’m working on a lot of new music so I’m spending a lot of time in my studio right now!

Your new single HYPEBEAST has just dropped and you have more new music coming soon! How has the reception been so far?

Yes, it has! HYPEBEAST is the lead single taken from my next EP that is coming very soon, and it was an outlet for me to really collaborate with fresh, rising artists and shine a spotlight on them, working together to create something exciting for 2025. HYPEBEAST I made alongside SAVI and Eliana who are two really bright artists that I hope you guys will check out, but the response has already been amazing from my fans and I’m really looking forward to playing it out live!

The track is amazing! You’ve blended house music with elements of UK rap, R&B vocals, and even garage-style rewind effects – it’s got anthem vibes! Can you tell us about your creative process behind HYPEBEAST and what it was like collaborating with SAVI and Eliana?

Thank you! I’m a big fan of a lot of different genres, especially pop and I really like the flair and attitude of more urban styles, so to bring those together with my production style was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed working with SAVI and Eliana as I really find the power of collaboration an inspiring process, being able to exchange ideas and flow our musical energy to a destination that I may not have necessarily got to on a solo track.

When collaborating with other artists, especially from different music genres, how do you know when a track is truly finished?

It’s a tricky game! I think you never really know, it’s a process of gauging when is the right time to step away and not over-produce, it’s an ongoing process!

Before starting a new project, what’s your creative thought process – what do you aim to achieve with each track?

It is completely different with each and every project. Sometimes I am wanting to produce for a place that is solely for the club, or a peak-time rave or festival stage, other times I like to work with vocalists and other writers to guide a track or production into a more radio-ready or commercial sound but the important thing is to always keep pushing myself.

You’ve collaborated with huge names like Jason Derulo, Timmy Trumpet, and The Vamps. Which collaboration challenged you creatively the most, and why?

I don’t view any collaboration as a challenge, but more of a chance to incorporate each artist’s or producer’s world and sound into mine, and create something cohesive together. Of course, some collaborations have more challenges than others – a differing view of direction or sometimes things just not coming together how we may have first envisioned, but that is the beauty!

Is there someone specific you’d still love to collaborate with in the future, and what would that dream track sound like?

Taylor Swift, for sure. I’m a huge Swiftie which a lot of people might not know, I’d love to even add my own flair to a remix for her, that would be a dream.

With over a billion streams and huge global success, what’s been your proudest moment or achievement so far?

I could not choose just one! Of course, the success of ‘Solo Dance’ I don’t think anyone expected globally but that was when I was a young producer just starting out, so I definitely have evolved my sound and production process since then. Playing Tomorrowland for the first time was also a big thing for me, and during lockdown I was one of the first artists – I’m pretty sure across the world – to bring live streams to people from some crazy locations including the national stadium in Copenhagen (which we had to get government permission for!). I really enjoyed that because it was a race to adapt, as I’m sure everyone in the music industry felt the same, and luckily we created magic that we could beam to everyone at home – we called it ‘Me, Myself, Online’ and it’s a fond memory for me, despite the uncertain times we were all going through back then.

You travel extensively – do you have any travel rituals, essentials, or tips you could share with our readers?

Just to make sure to sleep where you can, that is it!

What’s your favourite place in the world, and what makes it special to you?

I have many but I really enjoy visiting Asia, The Middle East and places in the Indian Ocean like Bali as it’s just a million miles away from Europe. But of course, there is no place like home and being with my family in Copenhagen is something I always cherish when I’m not on the road.

Away from music, how do you like to spend your downtime?

I’ve been on a fitness journey over the past year or two and so I always like to try and keep that up where I can, I’m also just a bit of a homebody so spending time with my loved ones and my daughter is super important to me.

Lastly, can you give us an exclusive tease or exciting news about what’s coming next for you – something your fans can get extra hyped about?

Well, my next single from my HYPEBEAST EP, FOODTRUCK is coming later this month alongside Madds and Bradeazy – two super cool US artists that are really bringing fresh sounds to their own brands of house and party music – before my full EP drops with even more collaborations in April! I’m super excited for everyone to hear it as it’s a forward-thinking collation of the fresh work I’ve been wanting to work on for a while, and to collaborate with a host of artists who I never have before and who are really lighting up the scene, fulfills not only me creatively but allows me to introduce my fans to a new side of collaboration, with a Martin Jensen twist!

The Danish superstar behind the global, multi-platinum smash hit Solo Dance has gained over 1.3 billion streams across all platforms has not only shone bright solo, but across his collaborative productions too. Fusing together a mixture of feel-good, radio-ready pop music (see ‘Middle Of The Night’ with UK stadium act The Vamps and ‘Don’t Cry For Me’ with Jason Derulo), he has also worked with the biggest producers in the game including Imanbek, Timmy Trumpet and ALOK, and was the first ever DJ/producer to hold a position as a judge on XFactor, in his native home of Denmark. This March, he will release his long-awaited next EP, ‘HYPEBEAST’ with a leading track of the same name together with SAVI and Eliana – with some super cool UK rap and R&B vocals – taking listeners on a high-energy journey that showcases their shared vision for cutting-edge music. Introducing jump-up UK rap breaks and rewinds may not be the first place Martin Jensen’s music may take you, yet ‘HYPEBEAST’ showcases his dexterity and constant evolvement as an artist, always rooted in the joys of house, electro and shining a light on the power of collaboration in dance music.
